Manual Configuration of an FXO Gateway (MP-114/118/124)

The following describes configuration of an MP-104 FXO gateway with firmware revision 4.60A. Start the Audiocodes gateway configuration by accessing the Audiocodes embedded Web server:

  1. Point your Web browser at the IP address of the gateway.
  2. The embedded Web Server's Enter Network Password screen appears.
  3. Type your User Name and Password in the respective fields on the Enter Network Password screen. Default is "Admin" and "Admin" with capital "A".

IP Configuration

  1. IP Address: The IP address of the AudioCodes gateway.
  2. NAT Address: Currently not used as we assume there is no NAT between gateway and sipX.
  3. Subnet Mask: <Your Net Mask>.
  4. Default Gateway IP Address: The IP address of the gateway utilized to get to different subnets or the Internet.

SIP Parameters

  1. Gateway Name: The name of the AudioCodes gateway (has to be in DNS) or IP address.
  2. Working with Proxy: Yes, required to work with sipX as the proxy.
  3. Proxy IP address: IP address of sipX.
  4. Proxy Name: We assume that you are using DNS SRV for your sipX installation and that there is a DNS SRV resource record that points at the sipX server. Therefore, we only specify the domain name. If not using DNS SRV, then the fully qualified DNS name of the sipX server has to be specified.
  5. Enable Registration: NO, you do not want the Audiocodes gateway to register (only phones register).

Coder Name

  1. 1st Coder : Should be G711Ulaw64k with 20ms samples.

SIP Definition / General

  1. Enable out of Band DTMF: No

Proxy Server and Authentication

  1. Enable Proxy: Yes
  2. Proxy Name: The fully qualified DNS name of sipX (typically sipx.domain.com).
  3. Proxy IP Address: The IP address of the sipX server.
  4. Enable Registration: No, the Gateway should not register (only phones register).
  5. Always use proxy: No, if this is set to yes, Record Route is not used.

Coder Name

  1. 1st Coder: Populate the fields with the coders you want to use. Always include G.711u as this is the preferred codec for the sipX Media Server.

DTMF and Dialing Parameters

  1. DTMF RFC 2833 Negotiation: Yes, the sipX Media Server requires this setting.
  2. RFC2833 Payload Type: 96, enter the payload type here.

Supplementary Services

  1. Enable Hold: Yes
  2. Enable Transfer: Yes

Trunk Group Table

The phone number is the ANI for incoming PSTN or PBX calls, which do not have an ANI.

Manipulation Tables
The Number Manipulation tables are used for incoming and outgoing calls. These tables are used to modify the destination and source telephone number so that calls can be routed correctly.

Tel to IP Routing Table & IP Security

The sipX authorization proxy is responsible for enforcing the permissions that govern which users and phones can call PSTN numbers. In order for that enforcement to be effective, the gateway must not accept calls that do not come from the proxy (also see Securing Calls to the PSTN). To configure this restriction, there are two settings: the Tel to IP Routing Table, and the IP Security parameter.

Select the Tel to IP Routing Table and add a row for each proxy in your configuration (you will only have one unless you are running a High Availability system with redundant proxy servers). Each row has just <tt>*</tt> for the number prefix values, the IP address of a proxy, and the default tel profile number:

Select the menu Advanced Parameters and go to the General Parameters page.

Set IP Security to Enable.

IP to Trunk Routing Table

The IP to Trunk Routing Table is used to route incoming IP calls to groups of E1/T1 B-channels called trunk groups. If the destination phone number of an incoming IP call matches one of the prefixes entered, the call is assigned to the trunk group associated with this prefix. In this example, all incoming IP calls will be routed out Trunk Group 1.

Trunk Group Settings

The Trunk Group Settings Table is used to determine the method in which new calls are assigned to B-channels within each trunk group.

Network Settings

  1. IP Address: IP address of the AudioCodes gateway.

Channel Settings

You should not need to modify any channel settings for sipX interoperability.

Trunk Settings

The Trunk Settings are utilized to setup the Trunk, including the Telephony protocol type. This should be configured so the interface operates with the PSTN or PBX interface to which it is connected.

TDM Bus Settings

  1. PCM Law Select: Select Mulaw; this must be MuLaw for T1.
  2. TDM Bus Clock Source: Select Network; this is the clock source.

Audiocodes: Reset to Factory Defaults

  1. Disconnect the MP-1xx from the power and network cables
  2. Reconnect the power cable. The gateway is powered up. After approximately 45 seconds the Ready LED turns to green and the Control LED blinks for about 3 seconds
  3. While the Control LED is blinking, press shortly on the reset button (located on the left side of the front panel); the gateway resets a second time and is restored with factory default parameters
